Food Guide / Greenpoint & Williamsburg

I often get asked for my recommendations of places to eat in
Brooklyn. I decided to create a list of my favorite spots in Greenpoint &
Williamsburg. I’ve lived in the area ever since I moved to New York 4 and a
half years ago. There are so many incredible places to eat but here are a few
of my personal go-tos:

Best for a Quick Breakfast: Frankel’s
631 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn NY
A new addition to the Nassau G area, Frankel’s is a
delicatessen owned by two young brothers who’ve revived traditional Jewish
dishes from their family recipe book! It’s counter service and there’s
sometimes a line on the weekends but the service is quick and the food is
delicious!
What to order: Bacon, Tomato & Scallion Cream Cheese
breakfast sandwich ($8) & a hot coffee ($3). If you’re more adventurous try
the nova No. Two or Salmon & Whitefish No. Three.
Price: Around $15 for a hearty bagel sandwich & coffee.
Also great: The Bagel Shop (quirky rainbow bagels &
traditional breakfast sandwiches) & Peter Pan Donut (an old school donut
shop with delicious pasties)
Best for a Long Breakfast with a Laptop: ReUnion
544 Union Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
If you follow me on Snapchat you’ve definitely noticed this
joint. I’m a regular here pretty much every weekday morning! It’s a charming
little place with great food and a laid-back ambiance. The wall against the
window has plenty of outlets if you want to stay and get work done. I can’t say
enough good things about this place it really is a gem!
What to order: Shakshooka ($14) if you’re hungry and like
food with a little kick. Yogurt & Granola ($8) if you’re craving something
smaller & sweet. Chai tea latte with almond milk ($5) to warm up.
Price: Around $20 for entrée & drink

Also great: Jimmy’s Dinner (greasy but delicious diner food)
& The Blue Stove (pie shop with delicious quiches)

Best for Brunch: Five Leaves
18 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Five Leaves was initially a project of Heath Ledger. After
his death his estate paid to complete the restaurant in his honor in 2008. It’s been a
hipster destination ever since. The food is homey with Australian flourishes
while the atmosphere is casual if not slightly pretentious. On pleasant
afternoons, the outdoor seating is perfect for people watching while looking
very Greenpoint-chic. Expect a long wait on weekends but grab a coffee from the ‘coffee to-go’ outpost and take a walk in McCarren Park just across from the restaurant.
What to order: Ricotta Pancakes ($16). Just do it. Moroccan
Scramble ($14) if you’re more salty than sweet.
Also great: Cafe Mogador (hip Moroccan food) & Becco
(cash-only Brazilian joint)

Price: $25 for entrée & coffee

Best for Lunch: The Bedford
110 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
A laid back bar and restaurant right on Bedford Ave, The
Bedford has unfussy delicious food with generous portions. I’ve never had to
wait for a table yet every meal has been yummy, the perfect combination!
There’s also a back room that’s hopping on the weekends, Noelle even rented it
out for her birthday party this December and we all had a blast.
Breakfast Burrito (for lunch, I know but so yummy and
filling, $12) Avocado Toast ($8) soups on special (~$5)
Also great:  Baoburg
(cozy asian-fusion restaurant) & Hummus Market (middle-eastern with the
perfect hummus lunch special)

Price: $20 for entrée & drink

Best for Dinner: Calexico
645 Manhattan Ave, Brooklyn, NY
California-style Mexican food with simple burritos, tacos
& quesadillas. A good spot for a group with strong margaritas and Mexican
beers. Wait is usually 15 minutes or less, although we’re usually seated right
away when it’s just the two of us.
What to order: Start with Chips & Guac ($11) a house
margarita or beer. Tacos ($5) are delicious and a la carte if you want to
sample multiple options but burritos are much more filling for less ($10-$12)
Price: $30 for food & 1 drink

Also good: La Superior (tradition street-style Mexican,
cash-only) & Allswell (delicious new-American restaurant)
