Fine Arts & Good Eats in Atlanta

Gerry and I often spend our travel days exploring internationally, since this time last year we’ve visited Copenhagen, Paris, Amsterdam and Negril, Jamaica. That being said we often forget to enjoy the beauty of the United States! We decided we wanted to spend more time domestically with fun weekend getaways. This month we decided to book a trip to one of our favorite Southern cities, Atlanta with Ebates Travel Thursdays. Booking with Ebates is a super easy way to get cash back from your travels. Gerry is always finding ways to maximize our credit card points and find great cash back offers so we can make the most of our travels and with Ebates we got $120 in cash back from our flight and hotel bundled via Expedia. Right now, Ebates is offering 10% cash back with their Travel Thursdays offer– be sure to book today to take advantage of this deal! Honestly, it was so easy to book and we were able to pick from some of the best hotels in Atlanta! Ebates’ Travel Thursdays has tons of travel partners at 10% Cash Back like Marriott, Hilton, and more. We were able to put that money towards tickets to great museums and hot spots in ATL. We traveled for my birthday weekend with our friends Danny & Noelle and had an incredible weekend. Here are some of the highlights of our trip.

Away we go! We booked our flight via Ebates and were able to get a non-stop flight out of our favorite airport, LaGuardia (it’s much closer to our apartment than JFK) at 10am on Thursday morning. I packed light for once with just the essentials aka swimsuits and cute summer dresses for the hot, humid temperatures down in Atlanta.

One of our first stops was Ponce City Market and more important the Skyline Park. We had the pleasure of visiting Atlanta last year in November and one of our favorite spots was Skyline Park, a mini amusement park overlooking the gorgeous midtown sky. We grabbed a few beers, played a few sideshow games and even played putt-putt before eating at Mercury, a yummy seafood and steakhouse downstairs in Ponce City Market.
(A smattering of houseplants at Citizen – our favorite store in Ponce City Market!)
We also cruised through the boutiques in Ponce City Market. My favorite store is Citizen, an industrial style loft with products from local artisans. They have household plants, trendy clothes, great gifts and even locally sourced goods from Georgia. I picked up a vase, a cute tee-shirt as a gift and Danny even picked up a nice button down oxford for his days as a lawyer (he starts in September!)

My favorite part of the entire trip was dinner at one of Atlanta’s best restaurants, Kimball House. We fell in love with the rail station turned restaurant with incredible cocktails and Hawaiian rolls that I dream about! It was my big birthday dinner so we all dressed up and I even wore a child’s ‘Happy Birthday’ tiara because, yes I’m that extra on my bday.

For a bit of culture, we all headed to the High Museum of Atlanta in Downtown. We loved the exhibits we visited last November and the museum did not disappoint this time around. We were actually lucky because we were there on ‘Second Sunday’ which offers free admission from 1 to 4pm the second Sunday of each Month. The Winnie the Pooh exhibit was truly excellent, a walk down memory lane from childhood! In addition to free admission the museum offers lots of fun activities for kids and families (or grown-ups who act like kiddies!)

Our last stop in Atlanta before heading back to New York was BRUNCH! I love a good Southern breakfast so we headed to the Atlanta staple Buttermilk Kitchen. The wait was over an hour but it was totally worth it. I got the classic Buttermilk Pancakes that were just melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Noelle and Gerry had the Southern breakfast with yummy, flakey biscuits, eggs and traditional grits. It was one of the best brunches I’ve ever had so it made it hard to say goodbye to Atlanta (but easy to fall asleep on the plane, haha!)
